Top 10 Pet-Friendly Campsites
Some holidays simply don’t allow you to take your family pet with you. But if you want or need to have a pet join you in your travels, you do have an option – hiring a pet-friendly motorhome will mean you don’t have to worry about kennels or separation, and you can explore new places together.
But just because you have hired a pet-friendly motorhome, that doesn’t necessarily mean that every campsite you try to stay in will be pet-friendly too. And some are just better than others when it comes to looking after man’s best friend. Here are our top 10 pet-friendly campsites – stay in one of these, and you’ll know that your pet will be welcome.
Shortlands Farm – Pembrokeshire
Shortlands Farm is a 29 acre dairy farm with some of the most spectacular views across the St Brides Bay area in Pembrokeshire. This is a truly dog and pet-friendly site, despite the fact that is it set on a farm (traditionally these sites can be a little wary of allowing strange dogs into the area), and the owners offer a fun, friendly, laid back kind of site. Shortlands Farm is an informal campsite and you are able to park up wherever you like since there are no allocated pitches. It makes arriving very easy and is the perfect beginning to a lovely holiday in Wales.
Dot’s Camping – Hampshire
The New Forest has long been a haven for dog owners looking for somewhere beautiful and interesting to take their pets. Dot’s Camping is located on the northern borders of this most wonderful of national parks, in a village called Braemore, and looking out of your motorhome’s door in the morning will give you a seemingly endless view of heathland and trees. The best word to describe Dot’s is ‘tranquil’. This is the kind of place both you and your pet can truly let the world go by.
Glendaruel – Argyll
Head north of the border and there is plenty to see and do, especially if you bring your pet with you. Glendaruel campsite in Argyll prides itself on being especially pet-friendly, allowing you to fully relax knowing your dog is more than welcome. Beware, though: if your dog likes to chase small, furry creatures they will have a great time here since red squirrels and rabbits abound. You may have to do some running to keep up!
Tregarton Park – Cornwall
Tregarton Park is a family run, 12 acre campsite that includes a stunning Grade II listed 15th century manor house. Imagine parking up next to that – it’s incredibly evocative. You dog, however, will probably not be interested in the lovely Cornish scenery (that’s your domain). He or she will want to go exploring, and the good news is that there are many footpaths to choose from here.
Back of Beyond – Dorset
The comical name denotes a relaxed and friendly campsite that is happy to receive dogs (although not on the nearby farm). If you are also looking for one of the most peaceful, enjoyable, and out of the way places to stay, this adult only campsite offers all that, and more.
Crofton Country Holidays – Devon
Not only is Crofton Country Holidays a dog friendly site, it is also an award winning one. Add to that the fact that it is only a mile from a stunning (and also dog friendly) beach, and that you can go fishing in the nearby lake, and you could be onto a winner.

This peaceful park near the Peak District is a great base for hours of dog walking fun. For motorhomes, there is a choice of either an electric hardstanding touring pitch or a fully serviced hardstanding touring pitch, and whichever you choose you will be well looked after.
